Quick Summary / Abstract:
Background: The Livermore Valley Joint Unified School District (LVJUSD) is committed to developing courses that provide students with a wide-range of opportunities to prepare students to “contribute and thrive in a changing world.” Our Board of Education encourages creating new courses and updating courses that are engaging to our students and prepares them for success in the 21st Century. These updated courses include the California State Standards and supports students in their pursuit of college and career readiness.
Status As we strive to remain competitive in meeting student and parent/guardian requests for rigorous college preparatory coursework, career technical education, and elective opportunities that will prepare students for multiple options beyond high school, we collaborate closely with our high school teachers and administrators to keep our current courses updated and new courses prepared for Board approval.

Updated Courses:

Statistics A/B
In Statistics A/B, students will be introduced to the study of statistics in a wide variety of areas. Topics discussed include displaying and describing data, the normal curve, regression, probability, statistical inference, confidence intervals, and hypothesis tests with applications in the real world. This course covers the four themes of introductory statistics: producing data, analyzing data, probability, and inference. Students will develop a basic understanding of statistics that will prepare them to solve problems that involve collecting and analyzing meaningful data. This includes the study of measures of central tendency, measures of variation, graphical representation of data, least squares regression, correlation, probability distributions, sampling techniques, parameter estimation, and hypothesis testing. Technology and statistical literacy will be integrated throughout the course.

Advanced Placement (AP) Statistics A/B
The purpose of AP Statistics A/B is to introduce students to the major concepts and tools for collecting, analyzing, and drawing conclusions from data. Students are exposed to four broad conceptual themes: 1) Exploring Data: Describing patterns and departures from patterns, 2) Sampling and Experimentation: Planning and conducting a study, 3) Anticipating Patterns: Exploring random phenomena using probability and simulation, 4) Statistical Inference: Estimating population parameters and testing hypotheses
Technology and statistical literacy will be integrated throughout the course. Students who successfully complete the course and exam may receive credit, advanced placement, or both for a one-semester introductory college statistics course.
Fiscal Impact Instructional materials will be purchased from our District-established Instructional Materials budget using Local Control Funding Formula and Lottery funds.
