Background:
|
Each year, Adult Education submits a list of courses to the State Department of Education. The specific courses offered during 2021–2022 are determined based on funding, student interest, and grant requirements. There are six program categories from which a variety of classes may be offered. The titles of specific courses need to be listed in the registration flier under the approved program heading. Diploma students must pass the same academic requirements as other high schools in our District.
The California Department of Education maintains a master list of mandated program areas approved by our Board of Education. The master list of specific courses in the six program categories and course outlines for courses offered throughout the school year are on file in the Adult Education office. New courses for both mandated and community fee-based classes that have not been previously approved will be submitted for Board approval, as needed. A list of mandated program categories is attached for Board approval.
• Program 1 = Adult Literacy/High School Diploma (diploma courses, General Educational Development (GED), all testing)
• Program 2 = English as a Second Language (ESL), Family Literacy
• Program 3 = Adults with Disabilities (none offered at this time)
• Program 4 = Career Technical Education (CTE)
• Program 5 = Parenting, Family, & Consumer Awareness
• Program 6 = Older Adults

This item must be Board-approved and submitted to the State to receive funding. All mandated classes must be approved by the State.

Fiscal Impact

There is no fiscal impact to the General Fund in the approval of the Adult Education courses.
