Background:

Mary Henriques graduated from Livermore High School (LHS) in 1950 and then returned to become the anchor of the school's Foreign Language Department. She taught Spanish 1-8 throughout her long career at LHS. In 2015, Mary reached out to our District to inquire about the process for bequeathing money to LHS for a scholarship. Sadly, on June 17th, 2021 Mary passed away. Recently our District was notified that Mary left funds in Trust to establish a special LHS valedictorian scholarship.

Status

Mary Henriques, through the Mary Henriques 1996 Trust, bequeathed the sum of One Hundred Thousand Dollars ($100,000.00) upon her death to create the Isabelle Henriques Valedictorian Award, to be awarded to the Valedictorian/Valedictorians of Livermore High School who are also life members of the California Scholarship Federation. Each scholarship shall be in the sum of Five Thousand Dollars ($5,000) to each award recipient.
The Trust calls for the proceeds to be deposited in a Foundation Fund Account created pursuant to Education Code Sections 41030 through 41038. Currently, our District has a Foundation Fund under Education Code Sections 41030 through 41038 in which proceeds from the Leo R. Croce School Scholarship and the Hindu Community and Cultural Center Scholarship are held in their respective separate accounts.
