Quick Summary / Abstract: Staff will present the protocols for the start of the 2021-22 academic year, including indoor masking requirements.
Background: The Livermore Valley Joint Unified School District (LVJUSD) serves 13,500 students in grades TK-12 and, throughout the COVID-19 pandemic, has maintained the commitment to prepare each student to graduate with the skills needed to contribute and thrive in a changing world.

2019-2020 School Year
On March 13, 2020, during a Special Board Meeting, our Board of Education approved Resolution No. 049 - 19/20, Emergency and Emergency Response of the Board of Trustees of the Livermore Valley Joint Unified School District, which resulted in school dismissal.

On March 16, 2020, LVJUSD pivoted to distance learning, in accordance with the County stay-at-home order.

On April 3, 2020, during a Regular Board Meeting, our Board of Education approved Resolution No. 052 - 19/20, Extension of School Dismissal through the End of the Academic Year.

2020-2021 School Year
The 2020-21 school year launched with a revised and enhanced distance learning program to serve our students. We committed to providing distance learning as an option to each student and family through the conclusion of the 2020-21 school year, which was June 10, 2021. We also committed to offering distance learning as an option for students and families for the 2021-22 academic year.

On February 25, 2021, staff presented and the Board of Education deliberated and took action to formally end school dismissal and adopt our Superintendent's recommendation: LVJUSD Preschool and Grades TK-5 and Grades 6-12 reopen for in-person instruction beginning Monday, March 22, 2021, while retaining the distance learning option based on family preference.

On March 2, 2021, staff presented an update on our preparations and readiness for re-opening and return to in-person instruction.

On March 16, 2021, staff presented the final components for reopening.

On March 22, 2021, all schools in our District reopened to students who wished to participate in on-campus instruction. Approximately 63% returned, while 37% remained in distance learning.
Status Our District is fully committed to welcoming all students, in all grades TK-12, back to campus and in-person on August 24, 2021. The 2021-22 school year will include full time school days on Mondays, Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Fridays and early release on Wednesdays, reverting to our pre-pandemic schedule. In order to fully open as safely and effectively as possible, we will be adhering to the Alameda County Public Health Department and California Department of Public Health guidance regarding:
