Red Ribbon Week Resolution (1).pdf
Quick Summary / Abstract:
Background: The Board of Education is asked to approve a Red Ribbon Week Resolution. United States (U.S.) Drug Enforcement Agent Enrique Camarena lost his life fighting a war against drugs in Mexico. People in his hometown began wearing red ribbons to honor him and continue his fight against drugs after his death in 1985. From this, the Red Ribbon Week celebration was created and is now held every October across the Nation. Enrique Camarena’s life and death inspire us to believe that one person can make a difference. We ask our Board of Trustees to adopt a resolution in honor of Red Ribbon Week, October 23-31, 2024.
Status Resolution No. 015-24/25 has been prepared to encourage the Livermore Valley Joint Unified School District staff and students, along with the community as a whole, to observe Red Ribbon Week. This year’s theme is “Life is a Movie, Film Drug Free.” During Red Ribbon Week, students will learn about making healthy and respectful choices for themselves and their community by being drug-free. All sites across our District will be decorated with red ribbon displays. In addition, students TK-5th grade will receive Red Ribbon pencils, stickers, and access to printable coloring pages and the Red Ribbon Youth Pledge in both English and Spanish. Students in grades 4 and 5 will receive activity books. Students and staff in Middle and High school will be sent links to printables and scripts for their daily announcements, as well as a fact sheet and links to informational videos.
Fiscal Impact Expenses for Red Ribbon Week have been paid for using designated Federal Title IV funds.
